The 6’1” 205 pound catcher, who will play football and baseball for
We sat down with the multi-talented ballplayer to find out more about him on and off the field.
Q: What was your best baseball game in high school?
A: This year when we went down to Hastings I think I was 5-for-5 with a home run and a few RBIs. That was probably my most impressive game.
Q: Of what baseball accomplishments are you most proud of?
A: I think my most memorable accomplishment in baseball was winning the Babe Ruth State Tournament as a 14-year-old and then proceeding to win the Midwest Regionals and get a chance to compete in the Babe Ruth World Series in
Q: How did you start playing baseball?
A: I have an older brother and sister and two younger brothers and for as long as I can remember my dad would pitch to us. So I guess he’s probably responsible for getting me into baseball from a very early age.
Q: What are your (baseball-related) future goals?
A: I'll be happy if I can stay healthy and have a solid four years of college baseball. I don't know if there are any realistic future goals after that other then to one day hopefully coach my kids like my dad did for me.
Q: What are you doing to prepare for college baseball?
A: I’m working to prepare for college football and baseball. So along with lifting weights I also head up to the cage most afternoons with a buddy and get a couple rounds of BP in. Aside from that, I’m playing Legion ball for Tri-City.
Q: What are you thinking about studying in college?
A: I'm thinking about doing some sort of business major and maybe an entrepreneurship minor. Just because there is so much that you can do with that and I’d love to be my own boss someday.
Q: Who is your favorite baseball player?
A: It might have to be Ken Griffey Jr. He's got a sweet swing and an even sweeter stance.
Q: What do you do when you're not playing baseball?
A: In the summer if I'm not playing baseball or working, you can usually find me at a friend’s house just pooling it or at the beach playing volleyball or something. I also love to head up to my grandparents’ cabin whenever I can find the time.
Q: You play football and baseball. What's your favorite sport?
A: I'm actually going to have to say baseball and football are a tie. I enjoy them both equally, but for different reasons.
Q: Do you have a nickname?
A: Growing up my Dad always called me “Big E.” That’s kind of changed a little more to just “E.” No big story behind it though. My mom likes to call me “Eriky,” but she and a couple other choice people are the only ones that get to call me that.
Q: What’s your favorite movie?
A: A couple of my top movies are “A River Runs Through It,” “The Green Mile,” and “Dumb and Dumber.”
Q: Do you have a favorite TV show?
A: “Planet Earth” on the discovery channel was an incredible show. The footage of animals and stuff on that show is unreal.
Q: What advice do you have for young players?
A: I would say just work hard at everything you do because if you fail you know you did the best you could and if you succeed it just feels that much better knowing that you worked for it.
