Mounds View Remains Unbeaten

The White Bear Lake Bears (2-8) traveled to Mounds View (8-0) for a suburban east conference battle against the Mustangs at Kohler Field. Mounds View right fielder David Freed started things off for the Mustangs with a single in the bottom of the first inning. Freed later scored on a double from the bat of Mounds View first baseman Brandon Hershey. The Bears took a 3-1 lead in the top of the third with a string of hits including an Alex Noonan solo homerun, a single by right fielder Bryan Paulson, and a two RBI double by White Bear Catcher Sam Schleisman. It was all Mustangs after that as Mounds View whittled away at the White Bear lead with a run in the third before steamrolling through the bottom of the fifth inning by adding four more runs. David Freed was hot going 4-for-4 on the day while knocking in another run in the bottom of the six. Ross LaDuke finished things off for the Mustangs with an RBI single as left fielder David Bothwell crossed the plate for the final score.

Game Quotes:

Mounds View First Baseman Brandon Hershey "Our team did great today. We played a heck of a game. We played great in the field, we have been hitting really well this year and we have had good chemistry on and off the field. We are doing great things at practice there isn't a lot of standing around at practice and everyone is working hard. Everything so far has been a team effort and everyone is stepping up and helping out."

Mounds View Right Fielder David Freed "We started off a little slow today but got it going in the middle of the game. We have the potential to go pretty far. We have been pitching very well, we have been hitting very well, there always seems to be a person who steps up everyday. I think we have the potential to go pretty far. We have a lot of pitching depth, we are gluing together as a team and it is really fun to be around."

Mounds View Coach Mark Downey "Overall we are doing very well, obviously we are 8-0, you can't quarrel with that. We are competing hard and we are mentally tough, we don't get rattled. Those are two of three things that we always talk about. The other is execution. We are not always executing as we saw today, we did some things well, we hit the ball but you win games by doing the little things right. We are not trying to focus on the results but rather focus on getting better everyday and finding ways to win. Overall we are very pleased but we have some tough games coming up so we'll see."
