Mark Downey

Downey coached at Mounds View from 2007 - 2010, and from 2014 to the present.  He also does some site management activities at MVHS,  coaches the Mounds View summer VFW team, and is an Instructor with the Minnesota Twins Clinics.  Previously at St. Olaf College, he was an Assistant Baseball Coach, Recruiting Coordinator, Director of Baseball Operations, and Assistant Sports Information Director.  Downey is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire and Edina East High School.  He and wife Marguerite live in Apple Valley, daughter Erin lives in Texas, and son Joe lives in Michigan.

Coach Courtright began coaching at Mounds View High School in 2007. He has also coached various youth and high school baseball players in Apple Valley. He is a graduate of Harding High School and attended Bemidji State University. He and his wife Amy reside in Apple Valley, daughter Candice is a nurse in Wisconsin and son Cam is a recent graduate of UMD.


Paul Nienaber

Paul Nienaber was a three year letter winner at St. Paul Harding High School. He went on to play both football and baseball at Crown College where we won a UMAC batting title. As a sophomore he was named team captain. Paul began his coaching career in 1998 and has been working with Mounds View baseball since 2009. He is the Shoreview VFW coach and joined the Mounds View High School staff in 2013. Paul lives in Anoka with his wife Andrea.


Darcy Ruff

Coach Ruff began coaching at Mounds View in 2013.  Darcy played at Valley City State University in North Dakota and many years of amateur baseball.  His coaching experience includes the Wishek North Dakota Legion Team, various amateur teams, and several years of Shoreview Area Youth Baseball.  He currently is an assistant coach of the local Tri-City Red Legion Team.  Darcy is owner of Ruff Abstracting, LLC and lives in Shoreview with his wife Lynn and children Derek and Sydney.


Bobby Lynch

Coach Lynch joined the Mounds View baseball coaching staff in 2013.  Bobby has coached at a variety of levels for the past 8 years.  A 2007 graduate of Centennial high school coached at is alma mater for 3 seasons before becoming the Augsburg College JV head coach, and varsity infield coach.  Bobby coached there until 2011 when he graduated with a teaching degree.  Bobby previously was the Varsity assistant at North Branch high school.  In addition Bobby has coached VFW for Centennial for 4 season, and is currently coaching for PHD baseball. Bobby resides in North St.Paul with his wife Ana, and dog Koby, who will both be seen at many of the games.


Nick Moen

Coach Moen joins the Mounds View baseball coaching staff in 2014.  Nick is working towards completing a masters degree this spring in Education Leadership and Sports Management from Winona State University.  He also currently performs some site management duties at Centennial High School, and coaches for PHD baseball.  Nick has been coaching VFW baseball the past couple of summers, and he is an Assistant Varsity Football Coach at Centennial High School.  He played college baseball at Viterbo University, and played football and baseball at Centennial High School. Nick resides in Blaine.


Alex Hinseth

Coach Hinseth joins the Mounds View baseball coaching staff in 2014.  Alex is a Social Studies teacher at Mounds View High School.  He also coaches varsity football at Irondale High School and freshman basketball at MVHS.  Alex played football and baseball at Bethel University, and he is a graduate of Andover High School.  Alex and wife Kayla live in West St. Paul.

Coach Chhay joins the Mounds View baseball coaching staff in 2014.  Jon is in his first year at Irondale High School teaching Special Education.  He also coaches varsity football at Irondale High School and freshman basketball at Irondale High School.  Jon previously coached high school football and wrestling at St. Francis High School, and Legion baseball at St. Francis as well.  This summer he will be coaching Junior Legion for Hopkins.  Jon lives in Minneapolis.

Coach Evangelist joins the Mounds View baseball coaching staff in 2014.  John will receive his degree from St. Cloud State University this spring; he will be interning with Mounds View Athletic Director Bob Madison this spring to complete his degree requirements.  John has also previously served an internship at St. Cloud Tech High School.  He is a former baseball and football player at Mounds View High School; graduating in 2009.  John resides in Shoreview.

Coach Nelson joins the Mounds View baseball coaching staff in 2014.  Josh  hails from Alma Center, Wisconsin, and went to college at UW – River Falls,  He competed in Football, Baseball and Track at UWRF.  He played semi-pro football with the Minnesota Phoenix after college.  Josh has coached JV baseball at River Falls High School, and Junior High Baseball at Alma Center.  Josh is a personal trainer, and lives in Coon Rapids with fiancé Amanda and daughter Ella.



Joe Salvatori

Coach Salvatori started with the Mounds View Program in 2012. Joe is a District Director for Pitney Bowes Corporation. Joe comes to us from Pennsylvania where he was the head coach for West Scranton Legion. Joe graduated from Scranton Preparatory High School where he played Football, Basketball and Baseball. After he graduated he attended DeSales University where he was a 4 year starting infielder for the baseball team. Joe co-captained the team his senior year and finished that season as a ECAC honorable mention player. He graduated with a BS in sales and marketing. Joe and his wife Julie reside in Shoreview with their son Sam and daughter Kathryn.

Coach Gorman joins the Mounds View High School Coaching Staff in 2014.  Steve played in high school at South St. Paul and in college at the University of Notre Dame and continues to play over 35 baseball.  Steve coached  in and was past president of Little Lakes Little League before it became part of Shoreview Area Youth Baseball.  With three daughters who played fastpitch softball at Mounds View High School, he coached for many years in the Mounds View Softball Association and coached the Mounds View Varsity girls in their winter DomeBall League.  Steve is a dentist and owner of The Gorman Center for Fine Dentistry.  He and his wife Connie live in North Oaks.



Dan Skog

Coach Skog began coaching at Mounds View in 2013.  Dan started at SS for 4 years at St. Cloud State University, where he was a 2 year Captain and 2 year All-Conference selection.  He was a High School Lions All-Star selection at Meadow Creek Christian High School.  Dan continues to play baseball with the Coon Rapids amateur team.  Dan was the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Meadow Creek for 2 years, and he currently is a Building Supervisor at Mounds View High School.  Dan lives in Blaine with wife Gretchen and daughter Kensington.
