Coaching Staff

Mark Downey:  2010 is Coach Downey's fourth season at Mounds View High School - he is the Varsity Head Coach and is responsible for the overall baseball program.  He also acts as a substitute teacher and does some athletic contest site management for Mounds View.  He came to Mounds View from St. Olaf College where he was an Assistant Baseball Coach and Recruiting Coordinator.  Downey is a graduate of Edina East High School and UW-Eau Claire.  In the summer, Downey coaches a Mounds View VFW team and he plays Over-35 baseball.  Downey is an instructor for the Minnesota Twins Clinics and also does private lessons.  He and his wife Marguerite reside in Apple Valley, daughter Erin works in the nursing profession in the Twin Cities, and son Joe attends Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Scott Courtright:  2010 is Coach Courtright's fourth season at Mounds View High School - he is a Varsity Assistant Coach, and also is responsible for the Junior Varsity team.  He has coached various youth and high school baseball players in Apple Valley.  He is a graduate of Harding High School and attended Bemidji State University.  He and his wife Amy reside in Apple Valley, daughter Candice is a nurse in Wisconsin and son Cam is a student at UMD.

Brian Deschneau: 2010 is Coach Deschneau's first season coaching baseball at Mounds View High School - he will work primarily with the V/JV team.  Brian is also an assistant coach at MVHS with the Football and Girls Hockey teams.  He has previously coached Softball at MVHS and baseball in the community.  He is a graduate of Lake City and Gustavus where he played both baseball and football.  Brian's children Chris, Mike, Mark, Katie and Megan are MVHS alums, and Chris and Mike are MVHS baseball alums.  Brian and wife Mary reside in Arden HIlls.

Kyle Foster: 2010 is Coach Foster's first season coaching baseball at Mounds View High School.  Foster is the Sophomore Team Head Coach.  Foster has pitched in the Boston Red Sox organization, and most recently with the St. Paul Saints. He was a team captain, and an All-MIAC player during his college career at Hamline University. Foster was also a basketball player and team captain at Hamline; he served as a leader at the NCAA Student Athletic Leadership Conference, and was a member of the Hamline Student Athlete Advisory Committee. At Eastview High School, Foster played both basketball and baseball. He was a volunteer coach at Hamline in 2008, he has coached and acted as the Site Coordinator for the Gopher Junior Baseball Fall League, he is an instructor for Next Level Baseball Training and the Midwest Baseball Academy, he teaches in the Minneapolis School District, and he will be coaching the Irondale Sophomore Basketball team this winter. Foster lives in St. Paul.

Jordan Moberg: 2010 is Coach Moberg's second season coaching baseball at Mounds View High School.  He will coach the Freshman Team. He is a student at Bethel University.  Moberg is a 2006 graduate of Mounds View High School where he played football and baseball.  Moberg coached Freshman football at Mounds View High School in 2008 and 2009 as well.

Jon Nuss:  2010 will be Coach Nuss' sixth season at Mounds View High School - he will be the Varsity Assistant Coach, and he also acts as the program's pitching coach.  Nuss teaches Economics and U.S. History at Mounds View High School.  He was an instructor for the Minnesota Twins Clinics and currently does private lessons.  Nuss is a graduate of Bloomington Jefferson High School and Bethel University.  He played college baseball at the University of Minnesota for two years where he lettered in 1999, and at Bethel University for two years where he was a MIAC Player of the Week in 2000.  Nuss was a three-sport athlete and All-State baseball player at Jefferson High School.  He and his wife Kelly reside in Shoreview with their daughter Chloe.

Micheal Poncelet: 2010 is Coach Poncelet's first season coaching baseball at Mounds View High School.  Poncelet is the Sophomore Team Assistant Coach.  He received his undergraduate degree from UMD, a Law Degree from Hamline University, and a Special Education degree from Bethel University.  Poncelet played football, basketball and baseball at Walker-Hackensack-Akeley High School, and also participated in the sport of boxing.  He is an EBD Teacher at Mounds View High School, and his wife, Shawna, also teaches at Mounds View High School.  Poncelet is also the MVHS Girls Basketball Varsity Assistant Coach.  Micheal, Shawna and young son Marquise live in St. Anthony.

Brett Theisen: 2010 is Coach Theisen's second season coaching baseball at Mounds View High School.  He will coach the Freshman Team. He is a student at Bethel University, majoring in Chemistry, and with a minor in Business.  Theisen played football at Bethel, and is a 2006 graduate of Mounds View High School where he played football and baseball.  Theisen coached Freshman football at Mounds View High School in 2008 and 2009 as well.

Jon Walsh: 2010 is Coach Walsh's eigth season at Mounds View High School - he is a Varsity Assistant Coach, and also is responsible for the Junior Varsity team.  Walsh played baseball and soccer at Cretin-Derham Hall and is a graduate of Mounds View High School.  He is employed as a Special Education Para at Mounds View High School, and is also pursuing a Bachelor's degree in psychology from Northwestern College.  Walsh coached for six years in the area summer baseball program, coaching Mickey Mantle and Babe Ruth teams for 2 years each, and coaching the 16-Year Old VFW Teams the past 3 years as well.  He and his wife Shannon reside in Hugo.
