Diamond Club Minutes
Diamond Club Meeting
Members Present: Jerry Walen, Craig Dickison, Randy Reichert, Keren Turner, Mike Blumer, Mary Anne Marshik, Al Barkve, Mark Rosin, Bob Freed, Dorothy Pedersen, Sally McCarville, Jim Szymanski, Nina Wise, Jeff Hershey, John Hoffman, Coach Mark Downey.
Coach’s Update:
Coach Mark Downey introduced himself to the group as the new Head Coach of the Mounds View Baseball program. Coach Downey called the meeting to discuss the MV Baseball program, the status of the Diamond Club, fundraising, and organizational issues. He stated last year’s JV coach, Jon Nuss, will be his varsity assistant coach, and he is seeking one to two coaches for the ninth, tenth, JV and Varsity teams. He would also like a roving pitching coach and a hitting coach as well. Coach Opitz and Coach Walsh will return; Scott Courtright and Brian Sprout are other potential staff members.
The MV Baseball schedule was reviewed, along with practice and tryout dates. Games begin 1 1/2 weeks after Spring Break. Mark proposed taking an out of town trip every other year vs. every year. Discussion concerning the Spring Break trip was tabled until the next meeting, until the current Club balance could be verified and potential fundraising could be examined further.
Summary of the Diamond Club: Coach Downey presented a summary of the Diamond Club’s past role in the MV Baseball program, finances, as well as potential fundraisers, and a draft of potential By-Laws for the Club. He reviewed the current equipment and seasonal needs. Current funding from District covers busing, umpires, and four coaches only. Mark would like new catcher’s gear, some pant replacements, practice apparel, and possibly game bats. Coach Downey emphasized his objective of building a solid Mounds View baseball program, teaching the players life lessons, supporting multiple sport athletes and a focus on performance vs. win-lose attitude.
A draft of possible Club by-laws was presented to those attending, and the meeting was opened to discussion.

The next meeting will be held next week to give all those attending a chance to recruit more members and give Coach Downey time to gather a potential budget and wish list, as well give the officers a chance to organize and locate the Club checkbook.
