Minutes from December meeting:
Approved as written.
Treasurer’s Report:
John distributed a budget and cash flow worksheet; since December we’ve had a $544 deposit from Mary Ann Marshik’s sale of cake pans. (Thank you, Mary Ann!) Current balance: $3053.79.
Old Business:
Player Apparel: Still in process. Coach Downey reported hats, socks and mock tees will be ordered from
Pizza Pals: Jerry Walen has purchased the Pizza Pals cards after searching for a tax exempt number. The cards will be sold Tuesday and Friday before the MV Basketball games. We will be asking each player to sell $100 worth of cards or donate $100 to fundraising for the program if they prefer; the cards expire in 6 months, and will cost $11 per card ($6 cost).
A discussion ensued concerning our tax exempt status; it was concluded we will have to eventually undertake the process of forming our group into a tax exempt non profit.
Dinner/ Auction: Randy Reichert reporting: Nina Wise is in charge of communication regarding the event. An email evite went out to 113 parents and over 1000 SAYB parents. The event will be held on February 11, 6 to 7:00 cocktails and silent auction. Jennifer Dickison is in charge of the silent auction. Jerry Walen is preparing the program; Kurkowski, Szymanski, Bothwell and Karen Westburg are also assisting. Ticket prices are $45 a ticket, with a profit of $15 a ticket. We’d appreciate any donations of sports memorabilia or business items for the silent auction. A team has been formed to sell tickets; all parents will be personally contacted. We have 37 businesses who have already donated items for the auction. Randy would like to see us make $1500 to $2000 on the auction. Costs: $200 for the guest speaker; $180 for coach and guest attendance; $50 for decorating; $30 on the dinner. A maximum of 200 can attend the event with our location at Kozlaks. Another evite reminder will be sent in late January.
Section Programs: Al Barkve and Mark Anderson reporting: Last year we had $6200 in revenue with a cost of $2100, with 40 advertisers. A mailer with a copy of the program will be sent out to prior advertisers. In addition, each parent will be asked to give 3 business contacts for further marketing of the program. Parents and players will call those contacts to follow up. Al has put together a sales and advertising kit for player use in selling the advertising. Letters will go out in the next week or so. It was suggested we use the captains to organize advertising calls. Ads have to be done by May 11; we will offer a 10% discount on advertising price for orders placed before March 2. A description of the advertising program will be displayed at the fundraising dinner February 11 as well.
Cub Foods grocery bagging: Randy Reichert and Mark Rosin reporting: Coach Downey will promote the dates at the player meeting next week; we need to have 10 to 12 players, along with 3 parents a shift at each of the three shifts per day.
Game Day Experience: John Hoffman reporting. He has purchased a flag for the varsity field. We will need to recruit parents to help with the program after the teams have been selected. Some of the areas we’ll need help with: announcing, singing the National Anthem, etc.
Coach’s report: The batting cage in the gym is at least 15 years old, and Coach Downey will attempt to patch holes for this year, but requests $1000 in the future to purchase a new one.
