Diamond Club Meeting March 6, 2007
Members Present: John Hoffman,
Minutes from February meeting:
Approved as written.
Treasurer’s Report:
John distributed a budget. Coach Downey purchased new pants, practice jerseys, screen repair material, a new radar gun, tennis balls and buckets for a total of $2340 over what he originally planned on the first budget run-through. A discussion ensued as to whether we should reimburse Coach Downey for the additional expenses. John explained we are currently projecting $4,000 in program sales, and with the excellent income from the Baseball gala dinner and grocery bagging of $10,000, we are doing well: current balance a bit over $12,600. The carryover balance for next year was also discussed. A motion was made, seconded and carried to carry over a $5,000 balance into next year’s budget. With expenses and income projected, John moved to pay Coach Downey for the additional expenses. The motion carried.
It was suggested we place a spot in the sectional program to thank Cub for letting us bag at their store.
Old Business:
Player Apparel: Order forms were out on the tables for potential players to look over and purchase at the player/parent meeting this evening.
Pizza Pals: Jerry Walen has 21 Pizza Pals cards left from his original purchase. We have sold 79 so far; more will be purchased for players to sell after teams are selected. We will be asking each player to sell $100 worth of cards or donate $100 to fundraising for the program if they prefer; the cards expire in 6 months, and will cost $11 per card ($6 cost). Jerry would like to have a coordinator for the Varsity team, with the freshman, sophomore and JV coaches serving as coordinators for their respective teams.
Dinner/ Auction: Randy Reichert reporting: The event was wonderful with 142 people in attendance. We raised about $7,000, and Randy expects we could double that amount next year, so perhaps we could eliminate some of our other fundraisers. Kozlaks can handle a maximum of 200 people and the question of how to top our success was discussed. We have one auction item, a three-month membership at Bally’s available, which will be used in the Game Day experience.
Section Programs: Mark Rosine reporting for Mark Anderson. We have sold $3985 in ads to this point, with perhaps an additional $500 to $1000 more to be sold. That is $1700 above what we expected this year—good job Mark and Al! Deadline for ads is May 11.
Cub Foods grocery bagging: See above under Treasurer’s report.
Game Day Experience: Jerry Walen reporting. Jerry needs help during the games for every level, especially freshman and sophomore parents. Please contact Jerry to volunteer to help. A Bar-B-Q will most likely be held at April 14 to celebrate the beginning of the season. It would also be nice to have a social director for each team to set up group get-togethers, etc.
Coach’s report: The player parent meeting proceeded well directly prior to this meeting.
New Business: Discussion of whether we should pursue a non-profit designation ensued, including estimated costs and benefits. The idea was postponed until the next meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 pm.
The next regular Diamond Club meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 3, from 7:00 to 8:30 in the Mounds View Form.
Your attendance is welcome and highly encouraged!
