Diamond Club Meeting

Members present:  Coach Downey, Dave Stacy, Doug Quammen, Greg Madsen, Janet Wilson, Jeff Kohen, Jessica Hagemann, Jim Hoyme, Judy Vijums, Julie Becker, Keren Turner, Ken Porten, Lisa Wikstrom, Mark Anderson, Mark Fredrickson, Maurice Turner, Patti Nouis, Randy Reichert, Scott Becker, Steve DeCaster, and Todd Harding

 

The meeting was called to order by Mark Anderson at 7:00.

 

Overview of Diamond Club:

Mark Anderson provided an overview of the Diamond Club for the new parents attending.

 

Minutes from June meeting:

A motion was made by Jim Hoyme to approve the June minutes. The motion was seconded by Julie Becker.  All were in favor; the motion carried.

 

Treasurer's Report:

 

v     Jim Hoyme talked about the budget.  We like to carry over $6,000 at the end of each year. We had $14,000 IN June and the Diamond Club made an $8,000 donation to the field committee. Jim talked about the fundraisers held throughout the year.

 

Coach Downey's update:  (See complete report attached and on-line)

v     Coach Downey pointed out items on his coaching notes - copies were available at the meeting.

v     New spring break trip rules were discussed.

v     March 22nd starts the 2010 baseball season. Our spring break is the week of the 15th. This change removes the conflict of family trips over spring break.

v     Creates conflict with a space to practice during spring break; local colleges will be back in session on the 22nd.  Coach Downey will continue to pursue other options. Please email him if you have any suggestions.

v     Coaching staff was discussed.

v     Coach Downey talked about the proposed 2010 budget.  Our plan will be to entertain a motion to approve this budget at the next meeting.

v     Election days are 11/3 and 2/2 - we will have to hold meetings elsewhere (they have typically been held at Paninos) or move the meeting forward a week.


Report from Mark Anderson:

 

v     Mark went over the 2009 Responsibilities List, pointing out where the openings are.  If you are interested in leading or assisting with a Diamond Club function, please contact Mark Anderson. (See attached for areas that remain open).

v     Fundraisers were discussed.

v     Speakers for the silent auction/banquet - we will schedule the event when Twins Fest is determined. Coach Downey will then contact the Twins to see who we can reserve as a speaker.

v     Another option for off-season training was mentioned. Last year Pitch to Pitch came in to provide off-season training. This year we discussed the possible alternative of conducting off-season training at Acceleration Minnesota. Kevin Johnston would be the lead instructor for this program. The training would include 30 minutes of baseball speed and strength training coupled with 60 minutes of baseball skill development for hitting, throwing/pitching (see details attached).

o       A quick consensus was taken of those in attendance; 15 out of 21 expressed serious interest in signing up their son.

o       A motion was made that we adopt the winter baseball training program led by Kevin Johnston for 2010. Motion to approve made by Janet Wilson and seconded by Dave Stacy.  All were in favor; motion passed.

o       Kevin Johnston will attend the October 6th Diamond Club meeting to talk about this off-season training. He will be the first item on the agenda.

 

Fundraising Report:

Dave Stacy provided an updated on fundraising for the new field. The report can be found on the website.

 

 

The meeting was adjourned at 8:06 with a motion by Dave Stacy and seconded by Jeff Kohen.  All were in favor.

 

 

The next Diamond Club meeting will be on Tuesday, October 6th at 7:00 in the Forum.
